Cibes Finland wins with the best case of the quarter

30 June 2025

The winning case showcases a spectacular installation project at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova – Finland’s only archaeological museum – where two FlexStep lifts have made it possible for all visitors to experience the entire museum.

Located in the heart of Turku, Finland’s oldest city, the museum is renowned for combining underground medieval ruins with contemporary art exhibitions above ground. These historical surroundings presented a unique challenge: how could the museum improve accessibility without compromising the protected buildings and the narrow, historic passageways?

A flexible solution for a sensitive environment

The solution was FlexStep, a space-saving platform lift that functions both as a staircase and a lift. This made it a perfect fit for the museum’s need for discreet integration in an environment where aesthetics and historical preservation were crucial.

“The timeline was tight,” says Cibes Finland. “We had to complete the project before the architecture exhibition reopened, and we succeeded thanks to close collaboration with the architect and the museum’s management.”

Accessible cultural heritage for everyone

With the installation of the two FlexStep lifts, all visitors – regardless of mobility – can now move freely between the museum’s various exhibition areas. This means that both the underground ruins and the contemporary art above are now accessible to everyone.

With Cibes’ winning case, the Finnish museum is not only an example of how modern technology can solve historical challenges but also a symbol of Liftup’s vision of opening the world to everyone.
